This injustice is done and due to this they have to face their death many times and some even die. Today in this article we will talk about one such practice, which has been going on for centuries. This practice is child marriage, what it is, its causes, its effect, and how it can be stopped, all this information has been shown on the basis of some points below.

What is child marriage?

According to the law, marrying any child before a certain age i.e. the minor age of the children is child marriage. This is an orthodox practice, which has been named child marriage. It ends the human rights of children. Their childhood is taken away from them and they are put in such bondage, about which they have no knowledge at all. They don’t even know what is happening to them.

The victims of this practice are mostly young girls. Because of this, not only a young girl is married to a young boy, but a young girl is also married to an older boy much older than her. This has serious side effects physically and mentally on their whole life.

Child Marriage History -:

Historically child marriage is common around the world. The history of this practice is many centuries old. Some people say that this is a practice going on since the Vedic period, while some say that it is going on since the medieval period. Some people say that when foreign rulers came to India, they gradually started ruling India, at that time their daughters were married off to protect them.

In fact, they used to marry their girls at a young age to save them from atrocities, by those foreign rulers i.e. the British. So that they can use it as a weapon against the British. Apart from this, some historians say that this evil has also been implemented since the time of the Delhi Sultanate. So it is an ancient practice, which was carried forward by many generations, and due to this, it is still applicable in many places.

Child Marriage Causes -:

There are many reasons for child marriage in cultural, social, economic, and religious forms. Here we are going to show you some of the major reasons for child marriage –

  • Gender inequality and discrimination -: In many communities where child marriage is prevalent, girls are not given the same importance as boys. Girls are seen as a burden by their families. They believe that by getting their daughter married at a young age, she should put her load on her husband so that they can reduce their financial difficulties. Apart from this, how should girls behave, dress, and who should be allowed to see her get married? Controlling girls for all these things is also a symptom of child marriage. Domestic abuse, coercion, food starvation, and forced marriage are among the issues that girls face in addition to discrimination. They don’t have access to knowledge, education, or health care, which is why all of this occurs.
  • Tradition -: Some people see it as a tradition. In many places, this happens only because people say it has been a practice for generations. When girls start menstruating, they become women in the eyes of the community and they marry them at an early age and give them the status of wife and mother.
  • Poverty -: The primary cause of child marriage is also poverty. Those from poor homes are more likely to marry off their daughters as soon as feasible. They believe they will save money on the girl’s education, health, and marriage by getting her married as soon as possible because of their limited financial resources. People from poor families pay more attention to educating boys than girls. This is also one of the reasons for child marriage. People from poor families take loans to run their houses, or they get into any dispute, so to deal with such cases, they get their girls into marriage in such a house and at a young age. Apart from this, if the girl from a poor family is young and uneducated, they have to pay less for dowry. That’s why they get girls married early.
  • Insecurity -: Many parents get their daughters married to someone younger or older because they think it is in their best interest. They take this step to protect girls from harassment and threats like physical torture.
  • Inadequate Laws -: There are many countries where there are laws against child marriage, but they are not fully implemented. Muslims have laws like Shia and Hazara, in which child marriage is also included. Similarly, some communities promote practices like child marriage even after enacting laws according to them.

All these are some of the main reasons for child marriage, the result of which can be very fatal.

Child Marriage Effects -:

This is such a practice, whose effect is only negative. some effects are as follows –

  • Deprived of rights -: The biggest effect of child marriage is that it deprives girls of the rights they should get. They are forced to learn household chores at a young age.
  • Snatching of childhood -: This practice is such, that children are snatched away from their childhood. When it is the day of his playing, then he is entrusted with such a responsibility, about which he does not know anything. Where they should play games like sports toys and the wedding of dolls. There they are made into dolls and they are married and responsibilities are put on them. Due to this their mental and emotional development is not possible.
  • Illiteracy -: Due to child marriage, girls are kept uneducated or they have to leave their education in between. They are entrusted with the responsibility of household chores. And because girls are not educated, they do not get opportunities to become independent and empowered. The result is that they become dependent on their families for sustenance and make themselves powerless, which makes them easily exploited. Apart from this, if they are not educated, then they are not able to help their family with financial difficulties, also they are not able to educate their children.
  • Diseases -: The risk of badly transmitted diseases like HIV increases if girls get married early. Young marriage causes girls to become pregnant at a young age although they are completely unaware of it. Exploited girls are not even able to contact anyone for their protection. Due to this, they can also get many diseases, and even die.
  • Early motherhood -: Early motherhood is one of the most prominent effects of child marriage. To become a mother, it is very important to be mentally and physically healthy, in such a situation, if girls get married early, they become mothers soon, due to which the health of both the mother and the child can be in danger. Due to this, their children are also born malnourished, due to which they can get many diseases. According to research, it has been found that girls below 15 years of age are 5 times more likely to die during delivery than girls above 20 years of age. In such cases, the infant mortality rate is also very high.

Many efforts have been made to make people aware of it and to give up such practices. And even today we are displaying information about some of the efforts being made here –

  • Educating Girls -: To make girls aware of their rights, it is necessary to educate them because by this they will be able to understand how their forced marriage will affect their future negatively. Along with this, they will also get complete information about it, so that if they are being pressured to get married, then they will know whom they have to contact to fight against it.
  • Empowerment of girls -: The empowerment and self-confidence of girls are essential in the fight against this practice. To combat the injustice being done to them, they must fortify themselves. since they have the absolute right to determine their own future. And at the same time, girls should also be self-sufficient so that no one considers them a burden on themselves. For this, it is necessary that girls get an education and work towards empowering themselves.
  • Educating parents and community people -: The work of deciding the marriage of any girl is done by the girl’s parents or community people, whom and when they should marry. They do not even know about its law and they fix the marriage of their daughters at an early age. But if they are educated, they will have knowledge about everything. It will also be easy for them to understand that child marriage can have many negative consequences. So if parents and community people are educated, they may be inspired to change their views, speak up for the rights of girls and encourage others to do the same.
  • Supporting the law made against it -: In today’s time, many laws have been made to fight against child marriage. The age limit for the marriage of boys and girls has been fixed, apart from this, those who break the law are also punished. For this, it is very important to support. The more people support it, the easier it will be to end such practices.
  • Financial Assistance -: In today’s time, many such schemes are being made, by which poor families are provided financial assistance for the maintenance and marriage of their girls so that they do not consider their girls as a burden. Today, financial assistance is being provided by the government for the education of girls to marriage and their children. Due to this, there has been a lot of decrease in child marriage as compared to earlier.
  • Supporting anti-child marriage organizations -: To end this type of evil, organizations have been formed in many places against it, which spread awareness among people about its side effects, and it can also be supported. People can be encouraged to avoid it by giving information about its side effects through media and other programs. Programs have also been shown on television to fight and eliminate evils like child marriage, people are also being made aware of this.

Due to such efforts, it has become very easy to stop child marriage. In today’s time, child marriages have become much less than before.

Basic Law Information for Child Marriage -:

Different laws have been made in different countries to prevent child marriage. Here we are going to talk about the law made for child marriage in India which is as follows –

Child Marriage Act 1929 –:

The first law against child marriage was enacted in 1929. Which was implemented in the whole country on the first date of April in the year 1930. The goal of this law was to eliminate the side effects caused by it on girls. The following rules were implemented in this law –

  • Under this law, the minimum age limit for marriage was fixed at 21 years for men and 18 years for women. Earlier, getting married was considered child marriage. And for this, they were also punished.
  • A man between the age of 18 to 21 years had to pay 15 days’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs.1000 for marrying a minor girl as a child.
  • In addition, for the marriage of a minor girl by a male above 21 years of age, a jail term of 3 months and a specified fine for the man, the person conducting the child marriage, and the parents of the boy and the girl. used to have.

However, after the implementation of this law, it was also amended several times.

Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 -:

The Government of India passed the Child Marriage Ban Act in 2006, which went into effect on November 1, 2007, to address some of the faults of the law intended for child marriage. This law said that child marriage was to be entirely outlawed in addition to being stopped. In the previous Act, taking action against child marriage was difficult and time-consuming, as well as it was not fully implemented. Therefore, according to the Act of 2006, there was no change in the age limit, but some changes were made regarding the safety of children. These are as follows –

  • Under this law, minor boys and girls forced into child marriage have been given the option of breaking their marriage before or after 2 years of their attaining majority.
  • At the end of the marriage, the girl’s in-laws have to return all valuables, money, and gifts received as dowry, and the girl is provided with a place to live until she attains majority. And he doesn’t get married.
  • Apart from this, the child born out of child marriage is considered legitimate, and the courts are also expected to give custody of the child to the parents keeping in mind the best interest of the child.
  • Apart from this, the jail sentence has been increased from 3 months to 2 years, and also certain fine has also been imposed.

However, after the implementation of this law, Muslim organizations refused to accept it. But even after this law is applicable in the whole country.

Marriage is such a part of society without which society is nothing, that is, marriage is such a tradition of society that plays an important role in the life of all boys and girls, but if marriage is done at the right age then it is better if it is done before age. If given, it can also become a curse. Therefore, due to the efforts made to raise voices against child marriage and end this practice, there has been a lot of reduction in it in today’s time. It is expected that in the coming time, it will end completely.

Child Marriage Poem (Child Marriage Kavita in English) -:

what a strange rule
soft flowers wilted under custom

who doesn’t know what life is
relationships that don’t know

don’t know good or bad
don’t know your stranger

on such delicate shoulders
put the burden of marriage

like two open birds
tied to a peg

the naivety of young age
unknowingly played these bets of marriage

What are husband and wife, someone asks them
What is maintaining a relationship, someone asks them

like a celebration that was celebrated
Life bonds were created in sports
.

Don’t tie them in the name of customs
Child marriage is a curse, don’t put this burden on the little ones
.

It is necessary to raise a voice against child marriage, just as female feticide, the dowry system is a crime, similarly, child marriage is also a heinous crime, in which the childhood of the innocent ends and their foundation is weakened.
